10 awesome Tumblr themes

Tuesday Mar 24 2009

Yep, yep I know. This has been done before. How unoriginal of me! Yet I'm gonna do it anyway. I'm gonna post 10 Tumblr themes that I think deserve some special attention. Because I'm a Tumblr theme creator myself and because I love to see great work by other designers. I've seen a few posts claiming to highlight the prettiest but... I didn't like them all that much. So here's a selection by yours stubborn truly. Many of these don't actually appear in the Tumblr theme garden.

Whether they're 'the best' is very subjective I suppose. I do however think these are pretty good compared to many, many others I've seen. Note that these screenshots most often don't really do justice to the themes. Click them to see the whole thing. Especially 'Subway' is a whole lot nicer in real than on this screenshot.

Feel free to link to other themes that you think look great in the comments.

A post to make sure my blog gets banned in China

Monday Mar 16 2009

Yesterday I went to see my friend Tom in San Francisco. Pam, Addie, Tom, his wife Rosemarie and me decided to explore the Chinatown area in San Francisco. We had a great time. I even took some nice pictures. But... the pictures and the fact that we had a good time aren't what this post is about. It's about the little newspaper a friendly old lady gave to Pam. Both me and Pam usually ignore people who try to shove all sorts of things in your hands on the streets but for some reason Pam actually accepted this newspaper. "hmmm wait... this may actually be interesting", I thought and I put it in my backpack.

Waking up with The Great Leader

On the way back to Sunnyvale on the CalTrain I got bored, grabbed it from my backpack and started reading. It was a publication by a group of volunteers in NYC about Falun Gong. That's right, operators of the Golden Shield Project, it was about Falun Gong.

Gentlemen, the IP of my site is 208.97.179.128. You may now proceed and add it to the firewall.

From lists of A-Bloggers to lists of A-Tweeters

Wednesday Mar 11 2009

Small lunch time rant ahead:

Just when I thought the whole era of inter-designer/developer ass kissing was kind of over I ran into 40 web developers to follow on Twitter and 44 web designers to follow on Twitter. It reminded me of the whole 'A bloggers' thing from several years ago. You know the time when everyone in the land of web development and design would link to the same old blogs, almost because one felt they were pretty much obliged to do so if one wanted to get the whole professional image going. You'd see the same old links on every damn web developer/designer blog on the internet, making it hard to discover anything you hadn't seen a million times already (on the same day).

Now there's these two posts on ThinkVitamin, a blog I probably don't need to introduce to you all.

Why should I, or anyone else for that matter, follow these people, Ryan? Because everyone else does? When reading through the comments it becomes apparent that I'm not the only one with this question in mind.
