A response to a response
About a month ago I wrote a blog response to Andy Rudletge's design redux on USA.gov. I choose to do so because mr. Rutledge doesn't allow comments on his blog and I thought a public response to a public article would be the most appropriate response given the situation. Now, a month later, Andy has addressed the criticism. Well that is, some of it. Mostly the criticism involving both male and female genitals.
The part he unfortunately didn't address is the substance behind the criticism. He only addressed the ad hominem attacks and the vulgar ones. It's unfortunate that he avoided the actual substance of some of the criticism. For example the lack of knowledge about what terms such as socialism and communism actually mean, or the fact that the terms fascism and communism to describe the same issue are proof of a complete lack of understanding when it comes to the subject matter.
Andy's response is well-written but long-winded but pretty much seems to boil down to two statements: 1: "It's hard to be a right-wing designer" and 2: "It's my party and I cry if I want to.".
I guess it may be true that most designers are on the left side of the political spectrum. This doesn't mean there's anything wrong with being a right-wing designer in my book. I do however believe there's something wrong with uneducated false statements, whether they come from a left-wing designer or a right-wing designer and regardless whether they're written on a public forum or a personal website.
So for what it's worth, my five cents Andy. Feel free to ignore. After all it's a lot easier to address only criticism that involves vulgar language.
