Typo Theme contest: the long wait starts (updated)
While coughing and sneezing because the flu has me again I've been browsing through the latest submissions on the Typo theme contest. I don't think I've ever worked harder on a templating job than I did on my own contest entry. No matter who will win the contest I'm happy I participated and produced such a nice theme. In the future I'll definitely port it to Pivot and WordPress.
But who else submitted a theme that's worthy of winning a Powerbook?
1. Leevi Graham

I posted it in the comments on the Typo contest site and I'm saying it here on my blog: If anyone deserves a top position in this contest it has to be Leevi Graham. I've been chatting with Leevi on MSN since the beginning of the contest and we've helped eachother solve many Typo related problems. That means I've made a new friend which is a great prize in itself. His entry is an AAA quality one for sure.
Hemingway by Kyle Neath

Another top notch contest entry by fellow 9ruler Kyle Neath. His entry named Hemingway follows a quite different philosophy compared to Leevi's entry and mine. Kyle focuses on providing easy customization and personalization. Another ultra high quality entry by a talented designer.
Modernist by Bastiaan Terhorst

Bastiaan Terhorst has a great looking website and he's submitted a very nice minimalistic theme in true 37Signals / Web2.0 style. Less is definitely more which is nicely demonstrated by Bastiaan's effort. I like the fact that he described his design process on his weblog.
Phokus by John Serris

John Serris from the killer cool designed blog Phonophunk entered a very nice theme named Phokus. A very nice entry indeed. Too bad there isn't a demo site but it sure as hell looks slick.
This entry was added later, hence the 'updated' in the posting title
Waiting... nerve wrecking!
Not all themes have been posted on the contest site so there might appear better themes than the ones I listed here. If that's the case I'll update this posting. For now a period of waiting starts. I hope my efforts will have been worth it.
May the best theme win!

But Hemingway is very nice and there’s still 34 new themes that haven’t been posted yet. It’s gonna be exciting. I just hope that in case I don’t end at position 1 or 2 (which I really was aiming for) I’ll ‘agree’ on the fact that the other themes outclassed mine. Especially with Leevi’s theme I wouldn’t be ashamed to end below him in the rankings because he did a hell of a job.
I’m not gonna say which themes I would hate to ‘defeat’ mine in order to prevent insulting people but many people will be able to know which ones that would be. Still it’s a contest and ultimately only four people decide: the judges.
We’ll see what the future brings!

Some more higher quality themes have been posted and there’s still thirty to go. I think this is gonna be really tough. I must say my hopes aren’t as high anymore like they were in the beginning.
But who knows? ;)

Yes, it’s AAA based on the technologies used, but based on usability I would rate it much lower.

Ronald: obviously I agree with Marcos rating ;) .. I underatnd the concern about speed, and I plan to release a sIFR free version of this theme in the next few days.. Out of curiosity what OS and user agent are ou running?
