Bye Bye MT-Blacklist
From a comment on the Pivot Blacklist website I just learned that Jay Allen has closed down the Master Blacklist for good.
Jay has chosen to end his anti-spam adventure with some carefully crafted insults towards other people who have joined the fight against weblog spam.
UPDATED, read on...
I do want to make very clear here that there are two distinct type of users. The first are the brain-dead developers who didn't bother to respect my wishes about using the changes file and coded their applications in such as way as to suck the bandwidth out of my server like air from a burning building.Jay AllenBeing one of those 'brain-dead developers' I'd like to thank mr. Allen for his kind words. I'd also like to thank mr. Allen for choosing to not respond to any of the emails I've sent to him since the initial release of Pivot-Blacklist 0.1.
Finally, after some trouble with Pivot-Blacklist and some repeated e-mails, Mister Allen decided to still not answer my emails but at least post a comment on the Pivot Blacklist website. I responded swiftly and released an updated version respecting a wish mr. Allen could have voiced back in November 2004 (!) when I first emailed him about my release of Pivot-Blacklist 0.1.
Anyway, this whole thing has left a bitter taste in my mouth.Jay AllenI must honestly admit the feeling is mutual. I won't miss the MT Master Blacklist and I won't miss sending out friendly emails that never get answered anyway.
Note that even the oldest versions of Pivot-Blacklist updated just once every 24 hours, which is nothing like 'sucking bandwidth like air from a burning building'.
As I wrote earlier, I think centralized blacklists are a dead end. The next version of Pivot-Blacklist won't use such a list anymore.
So long, and thanks for all the lists.
Update
Apparently Jay Allen has realized his remarks weren't ehm... all that friendly and he publically apologized for it on his site.In short, I could have done a lot of things to avoid this situation I'm in and probably will be in for quite a while (since the software which is being used will probably continue to be used for quite a while). My emotion was not correctly placed on tool developers, but instead on myself.Being one of the tool-developers I guess it's time for me to publically accept Jay's apologies. They're hereby accepted and thank you for your pioneering work in the field of blogspam prevention.
Again, my apologies to Scott Hanselman and others who I impugned. If anyone is to blame for the following graph, it is me.
Jay Allen

The MT blacklist was useless anyway, the solutions of this ‘brain-dead developer’ Marco are much more effective.
Bye! waves at Jay
