Stop Spam!

Having been annoyed to death by comment-spamming on my other (MT-based) blog kontverhaal.com I was already fearing the worst for this site for the future since Pivot doesn't have any protection against comment spammers. And so was born...

Inspired by Adam Kalsey's Comment Spam Manifesto I thought it would be nice to do my part in the fight against comment-spamming.

Pivot-Blacklist is a simple but rather effective for Pivot to defend your against the horror of comment-spamming. The current (initial) 0.1 release has the following features:
  • scanning of comments based on Jay Allen's MT-blacklist datafile
  • additional datafile for your own rules in case some spam isn't caught by the blacklist
  • Blocking and redirection to a user-defined page after has been detected in a comment
  • Automatic daily update of the MT Blacklist datafile from Jay Allen's site

Hopefully this little extension will help Pivot users in preventing their sites being taken over by the comment . You can download Pivot-Blacklist by clicking on the link below:

Feel free to leave a comment on this site. You can use Textile and Emoticons. Your email address is only used to show a gravatar. Please stay on-topic and use common decency. Spammers will be shot in front of a live studio audience.

If you plan on posting code, use pastebin please and post a URL to the code. The comment processing doesn't deal very well with code. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Human comment spammers: don't bother posting your crap here. Comments are moderated and I won't let any of your shit through.

Trackbacks

If you have an interesting related post on your own site you can leave a trackback. As they say: 'a little AJAX a day keeps the spammers away' which is why you'll have to click below to generate a trackback key. The key will be valid for 15 minutes and can be used only once.
