First they took usenet... then they took your inbox and now they're taking your weblog. Spammers are everywhere, in even the tiniest corners of the internet we are confronted with the same stuff over and over again. Viagra, Phentermine, Penis enlargement creams, diet pills and all other imagineable stuff you really DON'T need and definitely not on your precious little blog...

This site is relatively new and therefore it hasn't been 'discovered' yet by the cockroaches of the
internet:
spammers. Hidden in their filthy little offices they're running their casino's, porn sites and drug-dealing enterprises and destroying our precious writings and comment-discussions with their rubbish. As I already noted in my
about page I think the net is dead as a doornail. Or maybe not quite dead yet but at least squirming and struggling in a desperate attempt to fight the cancer that's killing it: spam. My other
blog called
kontverhaal is seriously bugged by spam. I recently installed the
MT-blacklist plugin in order to do some counterstrike-ish stuff but I've already seen the spammers are still managing to slip through it. It's probably a matter of time before this site will also be plagued by spam. As we speak there isn't a blacklist system for pivot yet so I'm hoping for the best. Maybe one day I'll write it myself because I feel it's totally unacceptible to have our blogs wrecked by these people.
I sometimes wonder what the more serious user of the internet such as you and me have to do to stop this. It feels unfair there's hardly any way to fight these low-life idiots trying to destroy our weblogs. A fellow blogger named
Adam Kalsey has set up a
Comment Spam Manifesto. Will it make a difference? I don't know but at least some people are trying to do something which is enough to get my official seal of approval. I highly encourage fellow
bloggers to sign the manifesto.
So far the spammers are still in the fight but as far as I'm concerned this fight isn't over yet...
